Volunteering
It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness.
Would you like to help?
Creating and maintaining paths and trails can be a fun way to easily give back to your community.
Simply walking the paths and trails helps keeps them open and spreads the word about our wonderful open space.
Bring Your Pruners
Everyone can help keep trails, and particularly paths, free from thorns and stickers by bringing your pruners with you and snipping back as you go.
Something more formal?
Trail Stewards/Rangers
Help us monitor our properties by volunteering as a Trail Steward/Ranger. Trail Stewards/Rangers walk our trailed nature preserves and monitor for fallen trees and other issues. You can help us in any way you can, from removing downed trees from the trails to simply walking a property twice a month and letting us know if you see any trail obstructions. Family trail stewards welcome. It's a great family activity if you have children.
Alien Task Force
The increasing prevalence of invasive species in our open spaces is a massive problem. If not controlled, our children and grandchildren will experience forests dominated by burning bush and barberry instead of oaks and maples; bittersweet vines choke tree growth, and can bring down even mature trees. This isn’t an exaggeration – as alien plant invasives take over a forest understory, the next generation of native trees won’t have a chance of establishing.
The Alien Task Force aims to help reduce invasives by training you how to spot them and how to use approved ways of eradicating these vegitative pests.
Scout Projects and Trail Building
The Town of Hebron welcomes Boy and Girl Scouts who want to complete projects on Open Space properties. We have been working with Scouts for years to build and clear trails, improve drainage culverts, re-route trails, build kiosks, and other important projects. Let us know what you have in mind and we can work with you to design a project that meets your needs and the town’s.
